100% Riffgewalt, ohne Spielereien und Schnörkel, wie ein Roadtrip durch die Wüste, mit Stoner-Rock auf dem Nummernschild gestanzt.
Das ist Van Groover. Es geht um den Van Life Style und die Geschichten die dieses Leben schreibt, wo auch die häufigen Besuche in der Werkstatt nicht verleugnet werden.
Das erste Album, welches die Garage im August 2021 verließ, landete direkt auf Platz 21 der internationalen Doom Charts. Es erzählt von einem Roadtrip und den merkwürdigen Charaktäre die man dabei trifft. Vom Roadkill Restaurant zum Affen auf dem Beifahrersitz, die kratzigen Vocals lassen keine Kuriosität aus, während die Musik das Szenario erfolgreich untermalt.
Die Musikvideos zu Streetfood und Godeater kamen die folge Monate und erhielten ebenfalls positives Feedback. Sie zeigen, dass die Band sich selbst nicht zu ernst nimmt, dabei jedoch professionellen Level hält.
Nach etlichen Konzerten und Festivalauftritten, mit Genre Größen wie The Atomic Bitchwax, Emil Bulls, MotorJesus, Daily Thompson, Maidavaile, Gorilla Monsoon und Bushfire, fand sich die Band 2023 erneut in der Werkstatt wieder um zwei EPs aufzunehmen die ihr 2 Album bilden sollten. Back From The Shop/ Back To The Shop erzählen von dem ewigen Kreislauf eines Van Besitzers. Nach der Werkstatt ist vor der Werkstatt. Die 9 Songs die nicht, rostiger, druckvoller und nur so vor Motor Öl tropfen konnten. Es erreichte die Doomcharts auf Platz 38.
Es folgten weitere Auftritte und zwei Mini Touren, die den Van sogar bis nach Belgien und in die Schweiz brachten.
Nach knapp 70 Konzerten in 3 Jahren löste sich die Band im Dezember 2024 wegen persönlichen Differenzen auf. Es schien als hätte der Van seine letzen Meilen gefahren.
Zahlreiche Zusprüche von Fans und Nachfragen von Veranstaltern sorgten dafür, dass nur ein Jahr später der Van vom Schrottplatz geholt wurde. Im Fahrzeugbrief blieb lediglich Bastian Helwig (Bass + Gesang, ehemals Cripper) bestehen. Zusammen mit Damir Palic (Drums, ehemals Plainride) und Manou Wolfsgruber (Gitarre, ehemals Grainded) fand er die passenden Ersatzteile, um den Van glänzend und getuned ende 2025 wieder auf die Straßen zu bringen.

That’s Van Groover. It’s all about van life and the stories that come with it – including the frequent visits to the workshop that can’t be denied.
The first album, which rolled out of the garage in August 2021, immediately landed at #21 on the international Doom Charts. It tells the story of a road trip and the strange characters you meet along the way. From the Roadkill Restaurant to the monkey in the passenger seat, the raspy vocals leave no oddity behind while the music sets the scene perfectly.
The music videos for Streetfood and Godeater followed in the months after and also received positive feedback. They show that the band doesn’t take itself too seriously, while still maintaining a professional level.
After numerous concerts and festival appearances with genre heavyweights such as The Atomic Bitchwax, Emil Bulls, MotorJesus, Daily Thompson, Maidavale, Gorilla Monsoon, and Bushfire, the band found itself back in the workshop in 2023 to record two EPs that would become their second album. Back From The Shop / Back To The Shop tell the story of the eternal cycle of van ownership: after the workshop is before the workshop. Nine tracks that couldn’t be any rustier, heavier, or dripping more with motor oil. The release reached #38 on the Doom Charts.
Further shows and two mini-tours followed, taking the van as far as Belgium and Switzerland.
After nearly 70 shows in 3 years, the band split up in December 2024 due to personal differences. It seemed as though the van had driven its last miles.
Numerous messages from fans and inquiries from promoters made sure that just one year later, the van was hauled back from the scrapyard. Only Bastian Helwig (bass & vocals, formerly Cripper) remained listed on the registration papers. Together with Damir Palic (drums, formerly Plainride) and Manou Wolfsgruber (guitar, formerly Grainded), he found the right replacement parts to get the van polished, tuned, and back on the road by late 2025.
